Manually update your Kobo Arc software

If you received a message about a required update before February 28th, 2019 you will need to update your Kobo Arc.

The steps below are for the Kobo Arc tablets only. Do not follow the steps below if you have a Kobo Vox. Updating your Kobo Vox prevents it from connecting to the Kobo store.

Before you start

Try updating your Kobo Arc via Wi Fi first by following these steps:
  1. On your Kobo Arc home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap About Kobo [Arc model] at the bottom of the list.
  3. Tap System updates. You’ll see a ‘Check for updates’ message.
  4. Tap Check Now.
  5. Follow the onscreen steps to complete the update.

If the steps above didn’t work for you, try to manually update your Kobo Arc by following the steps below. 

Update Kobo Arc on your Windows computer

  1. Turn on your Kobo Arc.
  2. Connect a USB cable to the Kobo Arc and to your computer.
  3. On your Kobo Arc:
    • Tap the “Charging this device via USB” menu.
    • Under ‘Use USB for’, select File Transfer. A file transfer window will open on your computer.
  4. On your computer: click and download the file below that corresponds to your Kobo Arc Model:
  5. On your computer:
    • Rename the file you downloaded to : update
    • Open the File Transfer window on your computer and copy the file named update to your Kobo Arc.
    • Note: The update file cannot be inside any folders.
  6. Unplug the USB cable.
  7. Turn your Kobo Arc off, then turn it back on to restart it. The update will be applied after you restart your Kobo Arc.

 

Update your Kobo Arc on your Mac

Note: You must have Mac OSX 10.5 and above to complete the steps below.

  1. On your Mac:
  2. On your Mac, Open Android File transfer.
  3. Turn on your Kobo Arc.
  4. Connect your Kobo Arc to your Mac using a USB cable.
  5. On your Kobo Arc:
    • Tap the ‘Charging this device via USB’ notification.
    • Under ‘Use USB for’, select File Transfer. On your Mac, an Android File Transfer window will appear.
  6. On your Mac, click and download the file below that corresponds to your Kobo Arc Model:
  7. On your Mac:
    • Rename the file you downloaded to: update
    • Copy the file to the root folder of your Kobo Arc. 
      Note: The file cannot be inside any folders.
  8. Unplug the USB cable.
  9. Turn your Kobo Arc off, then turn it back on to restart it. The update will be applied after you restart your Kobo Arc.
