Set up your Kobo eReader using a Quick Response (QR) code

A Quick Response code lets your smartphone scan an image that looks like a square and re-direct your phone to a website to complete your eReader set up process.

Note: Setting up your eReader using a QR code is optional. You can also set up your eReader without using the QR code by visiting kobo.com/activatedevice and entering the code shown on your eReader's screen during the setup process.

Set up your eReader using a QR code

Before you start, make sure you have access to a smartphone with internet access.

Turn on your eReader and follow the onscreen steps to start the set up process.
When you see the 'Activation options' screen on your eReader:
- Scan the QR code using your smartphone:
  On your smartphone, open the Camera app and hover your smartphone's camera over the QR code on your eReader's screen. Tap the pop-up menu that appears on your screen.
- On your phone, the numeric code will automatically be entered. Tap Continue.
- Follow the onscreen steps to sign in to your eReader. After the sign in process is complete, your eReader will sign in and go to the Home screen.

Set up your eReader using different providers

You can sign in to your eReader using an alternative account for example, your Google, Facebook, Apple ID, or a Kobo partner account.

Note: If you use Apple ID or a PCHome account (Taiwan) to sign in, you'll have to use the QR code method to sign in. Read the steps below to learn how. If you prefer to use your computer to set up your eReader, follow the steps in this article.

Turn on your eReader and follow the onscreen steps to start the set up process.
Tap Use your eReader to activate your device instead at the bottom of the screen.
When you see the Sign-In screen, tap More sign in-options at the bottom of the screen.
Tap Apple or your preferred sign in method.

You'll see a screen with a QR code and a passcode.
Using your smartphone or computer you can either:
- Go to: http://www.kobo.com/activatedevice and enter the numeric code shown on your eReader or;
- Scan the QR code using your smartphone. On your smartphone, open the Camera app and hover your phone over the QR code (the QR code looks like a square). Tap the pop-up menu that appears on your screen and follow the steps.
Enter the code that you see on your eReader's screen with the QR code and click Continue.
You'll be re-directed to the Apple ID sign in page.
Enter your Apple ID credentials and click Continue.
Your eReader will automatically sign-in to your account.
