You can copy non-protected content from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac onto your Kobo Books app.
- If your file has Digital Rights Management (DRM) protection, or your file is from a third party, you won't be able to read it on your Kobo Books app with this method.
- Your content will only appear on the device that you used to import the content. This means that even after you sync, you won't see the item on your other eReaders or apps.
Use one of the following to add non-protected ePub or PDF files onto your Kobo Books app:
- Google Drive

Import items with Google Drive
You can copy your ePub or PDF files onto Google Drive and add them onto your Kobo Books app.
Before you start:
To import items from Google Drive onto your Kobo Books app:
- Open the Google Drive app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Look for the file that you want to add onto the Kobo Books app.
- Beside the file that you want to import, tap the Share icon.
- Scroll down the menu and tap Open in.

Swipe left on the list of apps and tap Kobo Books.
The Kobo Books app will open and import your book onto your Kobo Books app. You'll see your book under Recently Added.
Note: It may take a few moments for the book to appear. If you don't see your book, tap Books at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap on the book you imported, then tap Read.

Import items with the Mail app
You can use the Mail app on your iPhone or iPad to email the .ePub or PDF file to yourself, then add it to your Kobo Books app.
Note: Your iPhone or iPad needs to have iOS 13 and above. Learn how to update your iPhone or iPad to the latest version of iOS.
Before you start:
Step 1 of 2: Email the files to yourself
Find the .ePub or PDF files that you'd like to add to your Kobo Books app, then use the Mail app to email the file to yourself.
Step 2 of 2: Open the file in the Mail app
- Open the Mail app on your iPhone or iPad and look for the email that you sent to yourself that contains the .ePub or PDF files.
Note: If you have issues signing into your Mail app, try the steps from Apple Support.
- Tap and hold your finger over the file that you'd like to add to your Kobo Books app.
A menu will appear.
- Tap Share.
- Swipe left on the list of apps and look for the Kobo Books icon.
- Tap the Kobo Books icon.
The Kobo Books app will open and import the item onto your Kobo Books app. You'll see your item under Recently Added.
Note: It may take a few moments for the book to appear. If you don't see your book, tap Books at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap on the book you imported, then tap Read.

Import items with your Mac
With macOS Catalina and later, you can use Finder to add files onto the Kobo Books app.
If you have an older version of macOS, you can use iTunes to import files.
Note: This method uses your Mac (for example, your Macbook) to import files.

To import items with Finder, on your Mac:
- Connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac using a USB or USB-C cable.
- On your Mac, click the Finder icon in the dock.
- In the Finder window, you'll see the name of your iPhone or iPad on the sidebar. Click your iPhone or iPad device name.
Note: If you don't see your device listed on the sidebar, follow the steps here.
- Click Files near the top of the screen.
- Drag and drop the ePub or PDF file over the Kobo Books icon.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Kobo Books app.
Under 'Recently Added', you'll see the book that you added.
Note: It may take a few moments for the book to appear. If you don't see your book, tap Books at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap on the item, then tap Read to open the file.
