We've made some updates to the Kobo Books app on Android that changes the way you use the app.
What features will be affected?
Individual (non-subscription) eBook, audiobook purchases and credit redemptions and Kobo Plus downloads will continue uninterrupted.
A few features will be temporarily affected as we work to make all the necessary changes to the app to comply with Google Play’s terms of use, including:
Google Play
Why do I need a Google Play account to make purchases with the Kobo App?
Google Play is now the exclusive payment processor for all apps available on Android devices, including the Kobo App.
I don't want to pay for my books via Google Play. Can I still use the Kobo App?
Yes. You can still enjoy your books with the Kobo App. You'll just need to make all your purchases on kobo.com first, then sync your app to see your newly purchased items.
Kobo Plus & audiobook subscriptions
New Kobo Plus and audiobook subscriptions will need to be purchased online at Kobo.com for now. Pre-existing billings will continue, so there's no need to change your payment method.
Kobo Plus and audiobook trials
You'll need to sign up for free trials on Kobo.com.

Audiobooks trials: Start your free Kobo audiobooks trial on kobo.com/audiobooks.
Giftcards & Promo codes
Will I be able to redeem a physical gift card with the Kobo App?
No. You will only be able to redeem your physical gift cards at kobo.com/redeem.
Will I be able to use promo codes with the Kobo App?
This feature will be temporarily removed from the app and restored as soon as possible. Until then, you can use promo codes on kobo.com, then sync your app to see your newly purchased items.
Store credit
Will I be able to use store credit with the Kobo App?
No. You will only be able to use store credit on kobo.com, where credit will be automatically applied to your purchase total. Then, sync your app to see your newly purchased items.
Pre-orders
Will I be able to pre-order books with the Kobo App?
This feature will be temporarily removed from the app and restored as soon as possible. Until then, you can pre-order books on kobo.com, and they'll appear in the app on their day of release.
Kobo Super Points
Will I be able to earn Kobo Super Points with the Kobo App?
Yes. You will still earn Kobo Super Points for book purchases made with the Kobo App and on Kobo.com.
Will I be able to redeem Kobo Super Points with the Kobo App?
Yes. You can still redeem your Kobo Super points on the Kobo App.
Note: If you're a customer in Japan or Taiwan, you will not be able to redeem Kobo Super points on the Kobo App. You can always redeem points when you purchase your item from Kobo.com.
