Your Kobo Stylus 2 lets you write on your eReader's screen. For example, if you’re reading a cookbook, you might want to jot notes on the margins of the page.
Note: Kobo Stylus 2 only works with Kobo Sage, Kobo Elipsa, Kobo Elipsa 2E, and Kobo Libra Colour.
With Kobo Stylus 2, you can use the built-in notebook feature to write notes and convert them to text.
Tip: Before you can use your Kobo Stylus 2 for the first time, charge it for a few seconds to activate it.

An overview of your Kobo Stylus 2
Your Kobo Stylus is designed to mimic a real pen with extra features:

Stylus tip
The stylus tip can be replaced when dull. Learn how to replace the Kobo Stylus tip.

Charging indicator
The charging indicator glows different colours to show how much battery you have remaining:- Orange - Charging: Glows orange when your stylus is connected to a power source and charging.
- White - Fully charged: Glows white when your stylus is fully charged and connected to a power source.

Flashing orange - Low battery: Glows and dims orange when your stylus battery is low.

Use your eraser to remove text or lines in your notebook.
Activate your Kobo Stylus 2
Before you can use your Kobo Stylus 2 for the first time, you'll need to charge it briefly to wake it up.
Note: If you haven't used your Kobo Stylus 2 in a while, you may have to follow the steps below to activate your Kobo Stylus 2 again.
- Connect your USB-C cable to the Kobo Stylus 2 charging port.
- Connect the other end of the USB-C cable to your computer or a USB-C charger (not included) for at least 5 seconds.
Note: The charging indicator will glow orange to show that the stylus is charging. If you don't see the charging indicator turn on, try charging your stylus using a different USB port on your computer or try using a USB-C wall charger.
- Unplug the USB cable from your Kobo Stylus.
After you've completed this step, you can use your Kobo Stylus to write and draw in your notebook.
Charge your Kobo Stylus 2
To charge your Kobo Stylus 2, connect the USB-C cable to your Kobo Stylus 2 and to a power source like your laptop, or USB-C charger. Depending on your stylus battery levels, it can take up to 1 hour to fully charge your stylus.
When you connect your stylus to a power source, the charging indicator will glow different colours:
- Orange - Charging: Glows orange when your stylus is connected to a power source and charging.
- White - Fully charged: Glows white when your stylus is fully charged and connected to a power source.
- Flashing orange- Low battery: Glows and dims orange when your stylus battery is low.
Replace the stylus tip
You may have to replace the tip of your Kobo Stylus 2 if you notice that the stylus isn’t as responsive as it used to be. To buy additional Kobo Stylus Replacement Tips, visit the Kobo Store.
When should I replace the stylus tip?
When writing on your eReader, your stylus should feel like a ballpoint pen gliding on a page. If you notice that your Kobo Stylus 2 doesn't feel smooth when writing on the screen, try replacing the stylus tip.
You'll see a pop-up message to let you know that it's time to change your stylus tip. To prevent your Kobo Stylus from scratching your eReader's screen, change your stylus tip when it's worn down.
You can also visually inspect the tip of your Kobo Stylus 2. There should be a wear layer that protects the stylus from scratching the screen. When you notice that this wear layer is thin, replace your stylus tip with a new one.
To replace the Kobo Stylus 2 tip:
- Gently pull the end of the stylus tip.
- Gently push the new stylus tip into your Kobo Stylus 2.
It may take gentle pressure to ensure the stylus tip is secure into the stylus.

Note: The Kobo Stylus 2 and Kobo Stylus 1 use different stylus tips. Before your finalize your purchase, make sure you add the Kobo Stylus 2 stylus tip in your cart.
About the pressure sensitive stylus tip
Depending on how much pressure you apply, you can create different types of lines just like a real pen.
- To create thick lines, apply moderate pressure while writing.
- To create thin lines, apply light pressure while writing.

Troubleshoot your Kobo Stylus 2
If your stylus isn’t responsive, try the following:
- Charge it for at least 30 minutes using the included USB cable
- Power your eReader off, then back on
- Replace the stylus tip. Make sure the stylus tip is securely pushed in all the way into the stylus.
- Make sure you're using your Kobo Stylus 2 on a compatible file.
