You can purchase eBooks and audiobooks using Kobo.com or using your Kobo eReader.

Buy eBooks and audiobooks on Kobo.com. 

• eBooks can be read on your Kobo eReader, Kobo Books app (smartphone and tablet), and the Kobo Desktop app (Mac and PC).
• Audiobooks can be played on the Kobo Books app for your smartphone or tablet.

Before you start:

• Create a free Kobo account if you don’t have one.

1. Go to Kobo.com.
2. Search or browse the Kobo Store to find an eBook or audiobook you're interested in.
   

   Note Kobo eReaders cannot play audiobooks. You can use the Kobo Books app to listen to audiobooks.

3. Click the book cover to see more information or click Add to cart to add it to the shopping cart while you continue to browse.
4. When you are ready to buy, click on the shopping cart icon at the top of the page.
5. Click on Checkout when you’re ready to buy the item.
6. If you are purchasing a single eBook or audiobook, click Buy Now from within the book’s detail page to proceed to the checkout.
7. Follow the onscreen instructions to check out. Depending on whether you’ve shopped with Kobo before, you may be prompted to enter your billing information, payment information, and gift card or promo code.
8. A confirmation email will be sent to you once the purchase has been completed.

What happens next?

After you purchase your eBook or audiobook, you can read your eBook on your Kobo eReader, Kobo Books app, and Kobo Desktop app.

If you don't see your eBook or audiobook, sync your Kobo eReader or Kobo Books app.

To listen to audiobooks, use the Kobo Books app for your iOS or Android device.

Buy eBooks on your eReader 

You can buy eBooks on your Kobo eReader. All you'll need is a Wi Fi connection and a valid credit card.

Once you've completed the checkout process, your book will appear on the Home screen.

If you prefer, you can buy books on kobo.com. The eBook will appear on your eReader after you sync. Read the steps here to buy eBooks from Kobo.com.

1. Go to your Home screen.
2. Tap Discover at the bottom of the screen.
3. Tap on a book that you want to purchase.
4. Tap Buy next to the book that you want to purchase.
5. If you've shopped with Kobo before and saved your billing information, go to step 8.
6. Use the keyboard to enter your billing address and credit card information. Note: We need your billing address to calculate taxes for your order based on your location.
7. Tap Continue.
8. Review your order.
9. If you want to use a gift card or promo code:
   • Tap Add gift card or Add promo code, and provide the required information.
     Promo codes can only be applied to eligible books, since not all publishers choose to take part in promotions. Read about how to use promo codes here.
     
     Tip: Enter your gift card code without spaces if you see an error.
     
     
10. Tap Confirm.
11. Tap Keep Shopping to buy more books, or return to the Home screen.
    Note: If you don't see the book you purchased on the Home screen, tap the Sync icon at the top of the screen, and then tap Sync now.

Add a payment method when setting up your eReader 

When you set up your eReader, you can add your payment method during the setup process. It's recommended that you add your payment information when you first set up your eReader so that after you've found a book that you like, you won't have to enter your credit card information during the checkout process. 

To add your payment details during your eReader setup process:

1. Follow the onscreen steps to select your eReader language and Wi Fi settings.
2. Set your date and time and tap Continue.
   
   
   
3. You'll see the 'Activation options' screen. You can set up your eReader by doing any of the following:
   
   
   • Option 1: Use your phone or tablet to scan the QR code. After you scan the code, follow the onscreen steps and enter your credit card information.
     
     
     
   • Option 2: Go to www.kobo.com/activatedevice and enter the code seen on your eReader's screen.
     
     
     
   • Option 3: Tap Use your eReader to activate your device instead at the bottom of the screen and follow the onscreen steps.
     
     
     
4. If you set up your eReader using a QR code or the activation website (kobo.com/activatedevice):
   
   
   • During the setup process, you'll be asked to choose a user name and password, verify your email address, and set up your payment method.
     
     
   • After you verify your email address, you'll see the 'Congratulations!' screen. Tap Add a Payment Method to enter your credit card details.
     
     
     
5. Follow the onscreen steps to enter your credit card credentials. 

Buying an eBook or audiobook on your eReader if you didn't add a payment method 

If you didn't enter your credit card information when you first set up your eReader, you can always enter your credit card credentials during the checkout process.

Before you start:

• Look for a book on the Kobo Store and tap on the cover to see the details. To go to the Kobo Store on your eReader, tap Discover at the bottom of the Home Screen.

To enter your payment information during the checkout process:

1. Tap on a book cover, then tap Buy.
   
   
   
2. Visit the Kobo checkout page by doing one of the following:
   • Option 1: Go to www.kobo.com/checkout on your computer, phone, or tablet or;
   • Option 2: Scan the QR code using your phone or tablet. This will re-direct you to www.kobo.com/checkout.
     
     
     
3. Make a note about the numeric code shown on your eReader's screen. You'll need this numeric code for the next step.
   
   
   
4. On your computer, phone, or tablet:
   • Enter the numeric code shown on your eReader's screen (shown in the previous step) into the empty fields.
     
     
     
5. Click Continue.
   
   
   Tip: If your QR code expires, you'll see a 'Code expired' screen. Tap Refresh on your eReader to get a new code, then re-enter code again.
   
   
   
6. On your computer, phone, or tablet, enter your payment details.
   Note: You can use a credit card or other payment methods (for example Paypal, iDeal, Visa Checkout). Each country will have different payment options.
   
   
   
7. Click Save and continue near the bottom of the screen.
8. Click Complete purchase.
   
   
   
9. On your eReader, you'll see a confirmation screen after you've completed your purchase.
   • To start reading, tap Go to Books to browse your eReader's books.
   • To go back to the Kobo Store, tap Keep browsing.
